Field stations and administrative headquarters
Ranger stations and park administration offices, inside the park and around it. Examples: El Cocuy, Katíos (Sautatá), Puracé, Guanentá.
Building inside Colombia’s protected areas means rules that urban construction almost never faces: mandatory environmental management plans, work windows limited by wildlife, materials carried by helicopter, mule or boat, coordination with Indigenous and Afro-Colombian communities, and biosecurity protocols. MARA has built and maintained infrastructure in nearly 15 national parks and protected areas in Colombia.
El Cocuy, Katíos, Gorgona, Chingaza, Corales del Rosario, La Macarena, Iguaque, Los Nevados, Los Estoraques, Utría, Puracé, Guanentá and Pisba.
Ranger stations and park administration offices, inside the park and around it. Examples: El Cocuy, Katíos (Sautatá), Puracé, Guanentá.
Reception, interpretation and ecotourism facilities. Example: the Furachiogua visitor center in the Iguaque Fauna and Flora Sanctuary.
Ranger, research and community cabins; timber glamping units. Examples: the fishers’ cabin at Utría and the glamping units at Chingaza.
Marine and coastal works in island parks. Example: the Isla Grande and Isla Múcura docks in Corales del Rosario.
Páramo, oceanic island, Chocó rainforest or cloud forest: each ecosystem determines the transport (helicopter, mule, boat, 4×4), the work camp and how the site operates.
Works carried out with National Parks, Patrimonio Natural (funded by KfW, the German development bank), the Colombia en Paz Fund and Conservation International.
