Partners in infrastructure for conservation and sustainable development.

We build park headquarters, visitor centers, cabins, trails, docks and civil works within Colombia’s National System of Protected Areas (SINAP) and in regions with environmental and social priority.

The context we build in

Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet.

Roughly 10% of the world’s biodiversity lives in this country, which covers less than 1% of the Earth’s land surface. Sustaining that biodiversity, and the communities that live alongside it, requires infrastructure: stations for the rangers who look after the National Parks, centers where visitors learn about ecosystems, cabins for researchers who monitor wildlife and plants, trails that manage visitor flow, docks that support work on coasts and islands, and sanitation works for rural communities.

That infrastructure is built in fragile biomes and remote regions, alongside Indigenous, Afro-Colombian and rural communities. For those who fund conservation or sustainable development in Colombia, the question is not whether to build. It is who can build it well.

Three dimensions

Three dimensions behind every MARA project.

01CONSERVATION

Environmental conservation.

Every project is carried out under an environmental management plan with specific measures to protect water resources, wildlife and plants, manage waste and control erosion. In fragile biomes we work with pressure-treated timber, materials suited to each biome and construction methods designed to minimize our footprint on the ecosystem.

Environmental impact
02COMMUNITY

Positive social impact.

We hire workers from the communities where each project takes place, including Indigenous, Afro-Colombian and rural communities. We coordinate the work with prior consultation protocols when they apply, and with local and environmental authorities.

Social impact
03QUALITY

Technical quality as a commitment.

When a design can be improved before construction, we improve it. When the biome calls for a higher specification than the contract requires, we apply it. A network of key suppliers built over decades lets us guarantee materials that meet the exact specification and finishes that age well in local conditions.

About MARA · 1987 — 2026

MARA is a Colombian construction company founded in Tunja, Boyacá, in 1987.

Nearly four decades later, we are still doing what we have always loved: building in the places that demand the most. Conservation, rural development, post-conflict recovery and the care of natural areas are where our work makes the most sense.
