Docks at Isla Grande and Isla Múcura.
Between September 2021 and April 2022, with Patrimonio Natural and funding from KfW, the German development bank, MARA carried out works on the dock of the Isla Grande field station, including a timber stairway, and on the dock of the Isla Múcura field station. The photos on this page show those docks.
An archipelago in the Caribbean.
The park lies off Cartagena and extends to the San Bernardo archipelago: small islands surrounded by coral reefs, seagrass beds and mangroves, with communities living on them and plenty of tourism.
Building over water without touching the coral.
Materials and crews arrive by boat, with work windows set by the sea. Timber and fittings must withstand constant salt and humidity, and every pile and board is placed with care for the seabed, which is exactly what the park protects.
Three contracts in the park.
2022–2023 · Works on the islands. With the Colombia en Paz Fund, through Consorcio ARQMARA Corales, a consortium of which MARA Ltda is a member: studies, designs and works such as the El Tesoro and Mangle cabins and a water tank on Isla Grande; a cabin, tank towers, a fuel storage building, a water tank and the perimeter fence on Isla Múcura; a dock at La Cocotera and works on Isla Tesoro.
2025–2026 · Isla Grande field station. With Patrimonio Natural and KfW, MARA built the park’s field station on Isla Grande, handed over in July 2026.
Safe landings at the park’s field stations.
Solid docks at both field stations, where rangers, materials and visitors come ashore, and five years of MARA’s work in the park.
