Technical scope of the work.
Prefabricated glamping units for visitor lodging in the Monterredondo sector of Chingaza National Natural Park. Timber structure on stilts with minimal foundations, roofs designed for the páramo’s rain and wind, built-in furniture and on-site basic sanitation.
The setting.
The Chingaza páramo, at around 3,300 m above sea level, is part of the páramo complex that supplies water to Bogotá: a strategic ecosystem for the water supply of the capital region and for high-mountain biodiversity.
Technical, logistical and environmental challenge.
In the páramo, the ecological footprint of the construction process itself becomes critical. Páramo soil is slow to recover and wildlife is sensitive to disturbance. The technical solution had to be light, prefabricated and quick to install.
EMP, materials, community, milestones.
Modules prefabricated in the workshop to minimize time on site. Stilt foundations with point anchors that protect the páramo soil. Pressure-treated timber. Contained handling of graywater and blackwater. Coordination with the National Parks team and with Conservation International as technical counterpart.
Tangible results.
Visitor lodging that makes it possible to offer an educational páramo experience with reasonable comfort and no significant footprint on the ecosystem. One of the first glamping projects in Colombia built to the construction standards of international climate cooperation.
